1864
The first group of Navajos finished the Long Walk to Fort Sumner on the Bosque Redondo Reservation in east-central New Mexico. During their march, thirteen of the 1,430 who started the trip were kidnapped by Mexicans or died.
1869
According to army records, members of the Thirteenth Infantry fought with a band of Indians near the Shields River in Montana. Two civilians and four Indians were killed.
1880
Settlers fought a group of Indians near Russell's Ranch in Texas. According to army documents, one citizen was killed.
1936
The secretary of the interior authorized an election to approve a constitution and bylaws for the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of the Fort Hall Reservation. The election would be on March 31, 1936.
1970
A legai inquiry into the boundaries of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota was made.
1975
Commissioner of Indian Affairs Morris Thompson authorized an election for a constitution and bylaws for the Manzanita Band of Mission Indians. The election would be held on July 12, 1975.
